If you want to study law in the UK, there is still time to apply for a Sept 2019 start but the deadline is fast approaching. In addition to getting your necessary documents in order, (such as transcripts from high school and/or university) you will also require a Tier 4 Student visa which takes several weeks. So, if you are interested in applying for this year you contact Barclay Educational Services soon so we can help get your application in order. Barclay Educational will assist you with the entire process at NO COST if you are applying from Canada. We are a recognized agent for our UK partner schools, so the university pays our fee. There are SEVERAL major advantages in applying to study law in the UK. Please find some of those listed below:
If you wish to study for a three year LLB in the UK, you are able to enter the program directly from high school. There is no need to complete an undergraduate degree as long as you meet the other admission requirements in terms of marks and other criteria. There is also no LSAT required to study law in the UK which is another advantage. Law in the UK is so popular with Canadian students that many schools even feature a Canadian Law Society which supports students from the very start of classes right through to their return home to start the job search.
Another huge benefit is the ability to study for a 2 year JD Pathway which is an Accelerated Law Program which is available at many UK universities but not available here in Canada. In this case, you do require an undergraduate degree but applications are accepted from any discipline. It is NOT necessary to study pre-law, political science or any other related undergraduate program. In fact, applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines because of the various forms of expertise they bring to the study of law. Even more importantly, the credentials are entirely transferable to working back home in Canada. A series of 5 to 7 tests are required upon returning back home before writing the Bar Exam. However, you are able to work in the field of law during this third year which means you are earning money and gaining experience rather than spending another year on tuition and sitting in class. So in terms of cost, going to the UK can actually be more affordable than studying law right here at home. Also important to note, all of the law programs at our UK Partner Schools are eligible for student loan programs such as OSAP. See the video below from one alumnus who has returned home and now works in downtown Toronto.
