Barclay Educational Services sends numerous students overseas to study each year for excellent programs such as Law, Pharmacy, Chiropractic and more. As our students, (and others) prepare to make the trip, we thought we would offer a few reminders below to help make the transition a bit easier.
THREE QUICK TRAVEL TIPS:
- Be SURE to carry all of your necessary documentation when you head over to study and have been granted a Student Visa (such as the Tier 4 Visa.) It is important that you do not ONLY rely on your passport. To be certain of clearing customs without any problems, you should be carrying all of the documents which you brought to your in-person appointment to apply for the Visa. For example, you should have your bank statements, receipts, CAS letter etc. Most often, officials will not ask to see all of this paperwork at Customs, however, it does happen on occasion so it is best to be prepared.
- Try to book your flight for at least a few days before the actual start of your classes. Some students book just a day or two before, not taking into account jet lag or time that you will need to get organized by doing things such as getting a European phone plan, or setting up a bank account. You could also miss important Orientation Events where you will first meet new friends who will be in your class for the next year or more. In addition, these events also help get you settled in terms of things such as showing you popular shopping spots or how to navigate the bus system.
- Remember that your Tutor is one of your best resources throughout your stay. In the majority of overseas programs, students will be assigned a personal tutor as soon as classes commence. Don’t be hesitant to let them know if you are having difficulty settling into classes, or are having a personal issue of some sort. If if it a school problem, they will be a able to advise you and help you with your studies and if it is a person issue, they will be able to refer you to the right person for help! Most of all, it is important to understand that although the chance to study overseas is exciting, it can also be a bit stressful. Almost everyone will be experiencing the same feelings so give yourself a chance to adjust and remember that things will almost always get easier with time.
