Data science is a field which is quickly changing in both the worlds of academia and industry. The MSc in Data Science at Ulster University encompasses an interdisciplinary nature insuring a wide application in terms of domain. The volume of available data has grown exponentially, more sophisticated algorithms have been developed, and computational power and storage have steadily improved. However, because they do not have the required expertise, many companies are not capturing the full potential value from data and analytics.
This postgraduate course aims to prepare students for a successful career as a data scientist. Students will be prepared to work in any profession where large amounts of data is collected and where there is a need for skills in data acquisition, information extraction, aggregation and representation, data analysis, knowledge extraction and explanation.

These projects provide valuable research experience and can help build new and ongoing collaborations with other departments and companies. Recent research suggests that data scientists are in high demand across all sectors including finance, marketing, manufacturing, healthcare, government and education.
